Facing a bathroom remodel in your New Jersey home? A big one can send the bravest homeowner running for the hills. Yet, if you’re well prepared and know what to expect, you can tackle your renovation, big or small, with ease. Here is a helpful list of Frequently Asked Questions to help you get started.

Will one of your designers sit down with me to help plan the project?

Of course. This is one of the most collaborative phases of any bathroom remodel. Our team will work with you one-on-one to discuss your plans and show you how they will fit into your stated budget. If you’re unsure of a design, we can help guide you in a suggested blueprint that would work with your existing space.

How long will the remodel take?

This depends on many factors. Some of those factors include:

  • The size of the space we have to work with.
  • Availability of materials. Some materials, such as marble or expensive natural stone, aren’t as readily available and must be special ordered, which takes time.
  • Our schedule
  • Your schedule
  • Amount of intensive work. For instance, if you want us to knock through walls, remove bath tubs, remove and rearrange walls, cut up your concrete floor, etc., this will take considerably more time than a simple decor job. While simple remodels may be done in just a week, more complex jobs {Master baths} can take up to six weeks. The average is typically 2 – 3 weeks. We will do our best to estimate time as part of your bathroom renovation in NJ.

Do you need to pull a permit?

This can vary by state, but generally speaking, whenever structural work or more than 40% of the sheetrock is being removed from a room a building permit must be pulled from the city. Our team is aware of all the local requirements and will apprise you of any permits necessary.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Any reputable contractor you consider should have the proper licensing and insurance to show they’re in good standing in New Jersey.

I’ve heard I should get a few estimates from contractors before settling on one company. What kinds of questions should I ask?

Being well prepared is key, so ask the right questions to avoid disappointment later. Here are few questions that should be on your list:

How many projects like mine have you completed successfully in the last year?

  • How will you assure me you will stick to the agreed-upon time-line?
  • Can I see a list of references?
  • Do you have a portfolio?
  • Are your employees certified and trained?
  • How do you approach a project of this scope?
  • Do you have workman’s comp and liability insurance?
  • How long have you been in business?

Should I replace or refinish my bathtub and tile?

This is often a very personal decision; based on how much time you are willing to devote to the project and more importantly, how much money is in your budget. Completely replacing tiles and tub is typically for the long term higher quality job instead of refinishing which is typically just putting a band-aid on a wound.

Asking these questions and more should help you tackle your bathroom remodeling NJ project more easily. Give us a call with any other questions you may have!
